Terms of Service
Last updated 20 August 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and SiteQuiet. They cover the free website scanner, paid website protection, what we promise about alerts, and — just as importantly — what we do not promise.
We have tried to write them the way we write our alerts: short sentences, plain English, no surprises buried in the middle.
What SiteQuiet is
SiteQuiet is a website-health monitoring service. We watch a website you ask us to watch and email you, in plain English, when something is genuinely broken.
There are two parts to the service:
- The free scanner. A one-off, read-only check of a public website. No account, no payment.
- Protection (paid). Continuous monitoring of the website — or websites — your plan covers, with an alert when a problem is confirmed and an all-clear when it recovers.
What we check: whether the website responds, its SSL certificate, its domain registration, its DNS records, broken links, and how quickly it responds. Contact-form delivery testing is covered separately in section 7.
Three optional parts come with a subscription, and these terms cover them too:
- An account. There is no password. You sign in with a one-time link we email you, so the security of your account is the security of your email.
- Our WordPress plugin. You install it yourself. It tells us your website is alive from the inside, which is how we tell a genuine outage apart from a website that is merely refusing us.
- A public status page. Off unless you switch it on. When it is on, anyone with the link sees whether your website is working, when we last checked, the percentage of our availability checks in the last 30 days that found it up — once enough have run for that figure to mean anything — and the problems we confirmed in that period — each with the date we confirmed it and, once it is over, roughly how long it lasted. It does not show your alert address, your account, your plan, or the technical detail behind a check. Switching it off, pausing the website, or letting the subscription lapse takes the page down.
The service is operated by [LEGAL ENTITY], of [ADDRESS] (“SiteQuiet”, “we”, “us”). By using the scanner or subscribing, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
Who can use it
You must be at least 18 years old. SiteQuiet is a business tool and is not intended for children.
You may only submit a website that you own or control, or one you are authorised by its owner to have checked and monitored. This is a real obligation, not a formality. Every time you enter a web address — in the free scanner or when setting up protection — you are confirming that you have that authority.
For anything beyond reading a website, saying so is not enough. Before we do anything that puts data into your systems, you prove you control the website — by publishing a code we give you as a DNS record, a file or a meta tag, or by connecting our WordPress plugin. Any one of them is enough.
If your authority to have a website monitored ends, tell us or remove the website from monitoring. If we have reason to believe a website was submitted without authority, we may stop checking it and suspend the account.
If you use SiteQuiet on behalf of a company, you confirm you can accept these terms for that company.
The free scanner
It only reads
The free scanner is strictly read-only. It requests pages the way a visitor’s browser does, and nothing else. It never submits a form, never signs in, never sends data to your website, and never changes anything. Its requests identify themselves as SiteQuietBot.
To produce a report it will:
- request the address you gave us and follow ordinary redirects,
- inspect the SSL certificate presented by the server,
- look up the site’s DNS records and its domain registration expiry date,
- measure how long the homepage took to respond, and
- follow a small number of links on the same website to look for dead ends.
It is limited on purpose
Scans are rate-limited per connection, per website being scanned, and across the service as a whole. Recent results are served from a short-lived cache, so scanning the same address twice in a few minutes returns the earlier result. You may be shown a human-verification step. Only public websites reachable over the normal web can be scanned; addresses on private or internal networks are refused.
We may refuse, delay, throttle, cache or block any scan, at any time, without giving a reason. We may also change or withdraw the free scanner entirely.
What a scan result is worth
A scan is a single snapshot taken from one place at one moment. It is not a security audit, a penetration test, an accessibility audit, or advice. Some checks legitimately come back as “we could not verify this” — for example when a domain registry does not publish an expiry date, or when a website’s bot protection answers us instead of the website. That is an honest unknown, not a finding about your website. The free scanner comes with no guarantee of accuracy, completeness or availability.
Acceptable use
You must not use SiteQuiet to:
- scan or monitor a website you do not own, control, or have permission to test — this is the rule we care about most;
- gather information about someone else’s website, servers or infrastructure — reconnaissance, probing or mapping of any kind;
- load-test, stress-test, benchmark or otherwise generate traffic against any website through our infrastructure;
- try to make our systems connect to private, internal, or non-web addresses, or to work around our safety and rate-limit controls (including by spreading requests across connections, addresses or accounts);
- automate, scrape, resell or rebrand the scanner or its results;
- break the law, infringe anyone’s rights, or interfere with anyone’s systems.
We enforce this. We may block, throttle, suspend or terminate access — with or without notice — when we believe these rules are being broken, and we keep operational records of scan requests so we can investigate abuse (see our Privacy Policy). Serious abuse may be reported to the relevant hosting provider or authorities.
Subscriptions and billing
What a subscription buys
A subscription buys protected-website slots, not a specific web address forever. The Solo plan is one website: one site is monitored at a time, and you can change which site occupies the slot. Where a plan includes several slots, each slot holds one website, and the number of slots is what you are paying for.
Price
The Solo plan is $10 per month, or $100 per year — the annual price is two months free. Any other plan’s price and website allowance are shown on our pricing page and at checkout before you pay. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any sales tax or VAT, which is added at checkout where it applies.
Who takes your payment
Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the Merchant of Record. Lemon Squeezy is the seller for the transaction: it takes the payment, handles sales tax and VAT, and issues the receipt. Your card or payment details are entered on Lemon Squeezy’s checkout, on their own domain, and never reach SiteQuiet’s servers. Lemon Squeezy’s own terms apply to the payment itself, alongside these terms.
Renewal and cancellation
Subscriptions renew automatically — monthly or annually — until you cancel. You can cancel at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for: monitoring keeps running until then, and stops when the period ends.
If a payment fails, we keep monitoring during the retry period rather than dropping your protection over a card that needs updating. If payment is not recovered, monitoring stops.
Refunds
We do not give partial refunds for unused time after a renewal — cancelling stops the next charge rather than refunding the current period. In good faith, we will refund a first payment in full if you ask within [REFUND WINDOW] of it being taken, and we will always refund a payment we clearly should not have taken. Refunds are processed by Lemon Squeezy, and Lemon Squeezy’s own terms also allow it, as Merchant of Record, to refund any purchase within 60 days. Any refund rights you have under consumer law in your country are unaffected by this paragraph.
Price changes
We may change prices. If we do, we will tell you by email at least 30 days before the change applies to your renewal, so you can cancel first if you would rather not continue.
What we promise, and what we do not
This is the most important section in this document. Please read it.
What we promise
- We verify before we alert. A single failed check never becomes an email. Whatever we are checking, we wait and run it again, and you only hear from us if the problem is still there the second time. For the check that matters most — whether your website loads at all — we go further, retrying and then confirming from additional checks before we call it anything. Where we have probes running on a separate network we confirm from there too, and we tell you when that happened rather than implying it every time.
- Ambiguity is never treated as failure. When a website’s bot protection blocks us, or a lookup does not answer, we report “we could not verify this” — not “broken”.
- We aim to be quiet. One clear email per confirmed problem, one all-clear when it recovers, and a summary — not a stream of notifications. An unstable website gets one message about the instability, not an email per flap.
- Plain English. Alerts say what happened, whether visitors are affected, and what to do next. Technical detail is available, but never the headline.
What we do not promise
- We do not guarantee that we will detect every problem, or detect any problem within a particular time. Verification takes time by design, and some faults are invisible from outside.
- We check your website from the public internet, the way a visitor does. We cannot see inside your server, your database, your hosting account or your email system.
- SiteQuiet is not a backup service, a security or malware scanner, a firewall, a hosting provider, or a guarantee that your website stays online.
- We cannot fix your website. We tell you what we observed and suggest the next step — which is often to forward our email to whoever hosts or built your site.
- We do not commit to a specific uptime for SiteQuiet itself, and we do not pay compensation for missed or late alerts (see sections 10 and 11).
Monitoring is not a substitute for backups, a maintained hosting plan, or someone who can act when something breaks. It tells you sooner. It does not do the fixing.
Contact-form testing (consent required)
Testing whether a contact form actually delivers means genuinely submitting that form. Because that puts data into your systems, we treat it as an action that needs your explicit permission.
- The free scanner never submits a form, ever. It only reads.
- Form-delivery testing runs only on a website whose ownership you have verified with us, and only after you switch it on.
- Test submissions identify themselves: the message says in its own words that it was sent automatically by SiteQuiet at the website owner’s request, and carries a timestamp and a reference, so you can recognise and filter them.
- You can turn form testing off at any time, from your dashboard or from the WordPress plugin. Switching it off stops the testing immediately; we never queue a withdrawal.
You are responsible for what happens inside your own systems as a result — for example test entries in your CRM, auto-responder emails, or per-submission charges from a form provider. If any of those matter, do not enable form testing.
Service changes and availability
We will keep improving SiteQuiet, which means features change, get added, and sometimes get removed. If we make a change that materially reduces what a paid subscription does, we will tell you by email with reasonable notice so you can cancel.
Maintenance, outages and interruptions happen — to us as much as to anyone. We may pause the free scanner entirely at any time, including when it is under abnormal load. We do not promise that SiteQuiet will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Ending this agreement
You can cancel at any time, for any reason. Monitoring continues to the end of the period you have paid for, then stops.
We may suspend or end your access if you break the acceptable-use rules, if payment fails and is not recovered, or if we are required to by law. For serious abuse we may act immediately; otherwise we will give you notice and, where practical, a chance to put things right.
If we end a paid subscription without you having broken these terms, we will refund the unused part of the period you paid for.
When protection ends, monitoring stops and alerts stop. What happens to your data afterwards is set out in our Privacy Policy.
Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE, INCLUDING THE FREE SCANNER, IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW WE DISCLAIM THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ANY WARRANTY THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR WILL DETECT EVERY PROBLEM WITH YOUR WEBSITE.
Some countries do not allow these exclusions. If yours does not, this section applies to you only as far as the law allows, and your statutory consumer rights are not affected.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, lost revenue, lost business, lost goodwill or lost data — including losses arising from a problem we did not detect, detected late, or reported inaccurately.
Our total liability to you, for all claims taken together, is limited to the fees you paid us for the service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. Where you have paid us nothing — for example when using the free scanner — our liability is limited to the maximum extent the law allows.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
Indemnity
You agree to cover our reasonable losses, damages and legal costs arising from a claim brought against us because of:
- a website you submitted to us without the authority to do so,
- your breach of the acceptable-use rules in section 4, or
- your unlawful use of the service.
We will tell you promptly about any such claim and will not settle it without talking to you first.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION], and the courts of [JURISDICTION] have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
If you are a consumer, this does not remove the protection of mandatory consumer laws in the country where you live, and it does not stop you bringing a claim in your local courts where the law gives you that right.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service changes. The “Last updated” date at the top always reflects the current version.
If a change materially affects a paid subscription, we will email you at least 30 days before it takes effect at your next renewal. If you keep using SiteQuiet after a change takes effect, you accept the updated terms. If you would rather not, cancel before the change applies.
